Desert Gene Data

I just read all the info in some other posts about anyone getting females to be fertile. I am not wanting to argue that they are or aren't. What I am wanting to know what have people that have actually done and what results have they gotten? I am wondering normal ambient temps and hot spot temps. What temps during breeding and what temp did they incubate at. I am looking for only people that have actually done this and have any type of results good or bad. I am not looking for he said she said information. If you have viable information I am interested.

thank you for the post but I have read that whole link already. It is interesting but i am looking for more people that have sufficient data they have kept through the whole breeding process and offseason. I am just looking for people that can get involved that arent going to get off the main topic.

There have already been attempts to get this data from the breeders that are not willing to give it up. Some are and have posted their results. Most of that is being collected by a member over on BLBC, to the point of even doing necropsies (he is a DVM). Unfortunately, you are just going to get a lot of conjecture and bickering by starting more threads. If you want to help in the matter, contact Sean over at BLBC. There is a whole thread separate from the main one linked concerning what he is doing.

If you have to "baby" the morph and the process to get productive results, is it really worth it? IMHO, no. Females are a dead end and breeders are only hurting the overall market by continuing to breed the Desert gene into combos. Again, if I spent $X thousand on a female combo and found out later it had Desert in the mix, I would be pissed. Let's move past this pipe dream female morph.

This is what happens on every desert thread. People start getting mad and picking on each other. Can't we all just get along?!?

The first problem is that it doesn't seem like you have really researched the info out there on Deserts. You say that you have read everything that you can find, yet you are hear asking the same questions.

2nd is that it doesn't matter what the data is. Compile all that you want. You are NOT going to find the magic formula. The females CAN'T reproduce. Most of them have internal issues with their reproductive system. Those issues can NOT be fixed by environmental changes. It is a defect in the gene.

So don't come here getting mad when people are going to tell you the same thing.

Any of the big breeders, that might still be working with this gene (still in the hopes of finding that miracle female so that they can get back the money they invested into the project) are NOT going to give out that info. Look how long it took for the issue to come out to the public Joe Shmoe. They knew about the issues, or at least had a very very good idea about them. They kept it quiet though trying to get paid before the silence was broken. Look the market has quite a lot of Deserts in it, as well as plenty of females that were sold at high dollar amounts. Some pretty sweet 3 and 4 gene combos. You don't get to 3 and 4 gene combos without seeing some serious production issues going on.

Did someone buy a desert recently and then find out they can't reproduce?

interloc thank you I agree. I am just trying to find viable information. I am not trying to heat a subject up or piss anyone off. I have just been trying to see what the data was on it. Thank you for anyone what has been helpful.
