bp has refused food since i got a new puppy???

Thanks for checkin out my thread and advice is great. I have a 500g normal bp who has not missed a meal yet. I have had her 4mo. And she was 116g when I brought her home. Anyway I recently changed to a standard rectangle 55g due to her growth. She is a hog and has continued to feed every 7 days like clockwork. Same time, small f/t rats feeding at night. I have had the puppy a week now, and got him on feeding day. Zeta (my bp) refused her first meal ever that night. Zeta generally stays in her hide and starts coming out earlier when its about feeding time. She has been out as soon as I flip on the nightlight and staying out going all over the cage. But she is not pacing back and forth, just more active. I have noticed the puppy sniffing the cage as it is on the floor until I can afford a stand, and zeta will stick her head out of her hide but has not struck or zeroed in on the dog. Think its just going off feed at the exact time i get a dog? She has always struck in less than 20 sec upon introucing food prior! Thanks for reading I have triedd to answer most ?s I thought people would ask to save tons of solutions. Btw temp,humidity,and everything else is 100% to my knowledge.

If the dog can get right up against the glass and can be/is around the tank constantly that may be stressing out the snake and making it not eat. Maybe put a towel or something over the cage or block it off so the dog can't be around it constantly. Is your heating element (UTH or flexwatt) laying directly on the floor/carpet (ie in direct contact with it)?

you can always put her tank on top of something else too so that the pup doesn't disturb the snake.

Get a baby gate or pen and put it around the tank. Puppies get a little curious and can harass a snake via bumping the cage ect.

I have had two tanks crack w / uth heaters, I use 70w hps day and 100w black for night. The uth cracked two tanks so far? ...... and I don't have anything to set this long tank on at time. I'm gonna try the towel and dogcage.. rats get expensive after 3 uneaten

You need to have your uth regulated with a thermostat, or it can get hot enough to kill your snake. 55 gallon might be a bit big for your snake, the size and move could have something to do with it too. But I would definately get some sort of barrier between her and the pup. Get the tank off the ground, or keep the pup out of that room.

55g is huge for a 500g bp. That combined with being harassed by the puppy is probably stressing her out.

She was in a 20 gal and was having trouble eating due to lack of room. Out of her hide she couldn't even stretch all of the way out. She fed 3 times in 55g and seemes ok but I'm no expert either. I planned on going w the 40breeder but found the 55g for free so I tried to put more in it to fill the empty space. What size do you guys reccomend 28in 515g:confusd:

I had a similar problem. One of my five BP's wouldn't eat once a little dog was around. I suspected it was a problem but couldn't be sure at the time. I tried keeping the dog out of the BP's sight, but I think she smelled it. I could get her to eat very small meals sometimes, but she fell behind on weight gain. Once the dog was gone, she started eating like crazy. Hope it works all works out & your baby starts eating again. :)
