Man, we've come a long way (or at least I have)
I acquired my first BP over twenty years ago. I kept it in a 55gal tank, and for heat, used a 60 watt incandescent bulb and a heat rock:O. Over time, in order to increase/improve effective heating, I Improvised, using everything from aquarium heaters submerged in mason jars to ceramic heaters actually IN the enclosure (I did purchase an agricultural thermostat that work OK withy the ceramic heater). Anyway, it was never ideal, both for me and the snakes. The water in the mason jar had to constantly be monitored/replenished and the humidity was generally borderline too high. Using ceramic heaters or heat lamps in larger home made enclosures would generally drive the humidity down too far, and I was constantly afraid I was going to burn the house down:D.

Yesterday, I received my Herpstat II in the mail and promptly hooked it up to my new AP T8 tank, which had already been outfitted with heat tape and radiant heat panels. The whole set up has been running for about 24 hours and I'm still tweeking the settings, but WOWWWW...what a difference! Constant cage temps despite 10 degree changes in temps outside the cage. I tell you, it just doesn't feel right NOT having to worry about interior cage temps any more. Proportional thermostats and radiant heat panels are the coolest!

Makes you wonder why people even use tanks, eh?

I mean, I got my PVC cage and WOW. What a difference
