DIY rack?

Just stumbled across this online:

I'm not handy at all, but I know this could probably be easily used for a rack. Thought I'd share with everyone ;)

I wouldn't say "easily." Heating it could potentially be an absolute nightmare.

It looks like the shelves for the tubs have a lot of sag in them. You could put one together probably cheaper than this. As long as the back panel comes off, you may be able to get some flexwatt in there. If the back is solid.... Good luck.

x2. It doesn't look like the shelves would hold up very well. I will share my design that I came up with and will be building soon. It is a 6qt rack and will hold 16 6qt tubs. without the tubs 11" flexwatt and the thermostat I am looking at about $40 to $50 in materials. it will be made of wood.

Adapting a existing product to a new purpose can be quite a lot of work sometimes. Often it is as much as starting from scratch. Go look at a floor model carefully and decide if it is appropriate to bother adapting. The local guy whom builds racks sells something like this for 230$ ready to go.

Just a precaution; do you have a dedicated reptile room? If not, I wouldn't go with back heating, as I've found out the hard way. It doesn't really keep them warm enough unless your room is already warm.

The model looks really good though!

The room where I have them stays around 77 to 80. Most of my racks have belly heat but I have been told that back heat is best for babies. That's why I thought I would go with 11" back heat for that design.

I just finished building this about 5 minutes ago. I had some left over melamine from some bedroom shelves I picked up from my aunts when she sold her house. They had about 5 melamine bedroom shelf systems that I scavenged to build most of my racks.
I had to go buy the pre cut legs at lowes while I was out. I have 10$ into this rack. I used some left over flexwatt, and had the foil tape already. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/05/a8u7ygyq.jpg

It holds 12qt sterilites, it will be in my 82degree snake room.
