incubation

Can anyone tell me if incubating ball python eggs at 80% humidity will be fine? As long as vermiculite to water ratio is mixed right? Thanks

If the water to verm ratio is right then the humidity wouldnt be 80%. At least i dont think itd be...:confusd:

Like the post before me put, if the ratio is right then i would think that it would be higher unless it's not covered and fans were blowing the air on it. I use press and seal and even put a lid on top of that just to make sure it stays sealed on my tub.

Perlite with an egg crate and water till it touches the bottom of the egg crate, locking lid tub.
No mixing, no worrying about appropriate amount of water, no seal a meal.

I find 90% to be about the best humidity level, 80% is too low imo.

If you are using light diffuser/egg crate you don't even have to use Perlite or Vermiculite. You can just use the crate and water. If you are worried about water splash, then you can add pretty much anything you want..... pea stone, gravel, dirt etc..

OK thank you all and the 80% was incubator humidity not in the box I will have eggs in so I will check that thanks

That number is irrelevant, the only number that means anything is the humidity inside of the tub :)

That's correct, we use perlite to stop the water from splashing on the eggs and it does a great job.
While those are great ideas I don't suggest dirt :P

Dont you have any trouble with condensation? I use perlite with a 1/1 ratio and i do dry out condensation from time to time.
