I am new to this forum and first want to say hello. I have some questions about my BP's hot side and shedding. I received my BP yesterday. This is our families first snake and I want to be sure that the behavior is normal. I have read every care sheet that I can get my hands on, but want to know if it is normal for him to sit in his hot hide (88-90 deg) for 20 hours or more. I believe he is going through a shed and want to know if this will be dangerour to him.

No, my bp will always go over to his hot side about a day or two after his eyes cloud and stay til just before he sheds at which time he will go over to his cool side hide.
Do you have two hides for him? One on cool side and one on hot side?
    What are temps and humidity?

Also Hi and welcome to the forum this is a great place to get valuable knowledge for you bp and all the posters on here are very nice. Good to have you.

You'll find shed or not they spend most of their time in their hides

Yes, I have a cool hide. My humidity is at 79-80. His hot hide is at 89-91. Hot cool hide is about 76-78. Where will he shed at?

There's no way to know where he'll shed, but mine frequently do it near their warm hides. It sounds like you have a great setup going, though as you probably know the humidity should drop to 40%-60% after he sheds. If you find the shed while it's still slightly moist, you should be able to stretch it out and see how cool it looks. :)

Hi there! Welcome to the forum!

Bp's will sometimes sacrifice proper temp regulation for the sake of a favored hide. If the hides at the two sides of the tank are different, he may spend all his time in his favorite one. To fix that, replace the cool-side hide with one that matches the warm side and see if he starts moving around more.

Thanks for your responses. I will try to match the cool side hide and let you guys know about the shed.
