First shed?

I have had Nanners for about a month or so and he has grown about 5 inches or so still skinny as a rail though lol. I vaguely remember the container I brought him home in having a November date on it. My question is when should he have his first shed?

I have yet to see any of the normal shed signs like cloudy eyes or less sharpness in his colors or anything. Do they have to be a certain age before they shed? I wouldn't think so but hey I am still trying to figure him out :lol:. Thanks for any replies.

I don't know much about kingsnakes, but mine is a colubrid, too, so I'm sure they're at least similar. It seemed like it took forever for Caesar to go into his first shed with us. It was about six weeks after we'd gotten him, or so. He wasn't a hatchling then, but still a young'un. Don't worry...I've never heard of a snake NOT shedding when it was time! :)

As for being skinny....I imagine he'll always look "skinny" to you, especially with a bp as a "big brother." Some snakes are just naturally slender animals, and it's not healthy to try and fatten them up.

Thanks JLC, don't worry I have no delusions of him being a thick and lumpy Cali king :lol:. I was just curious about the shed though other than that and being musked on (although he is getting better about that) no problems what so ever.
