Rose Red I thought we were done with this....
...whole hiding in a spot and scaring the hell out of me!
I went to check on little miss Rose Red (like I always do shortly before going to bed, and I couldn't find her!! Of course this isn't the first time my little 15 gram hatchling decided to play hide & seek and not tell me. Just like last time, I ripped the cage apart looking for her. Thinking all the while of how many millions of places she could be in my room and how low the probability would be of finding her. And of course my Sasha-Sue (Siberian Husky) wanted to know what is going on, so she in her own way was involved as well (there is very few times Sasha-Sue is not involved in something regardless if she can actually do anything).
I was about to full out panic when I remembered that I put aspen (my main substrate is eco-earth) inside one of her stumps so she could burrow in there if she wanted. Well guess what little miss Rose Red was doing? I bet you a fourth of a penny that you have no idea! She was happily burrowed in the aspen that was inside the stump.
I didn't see her on account of her being burrowed so deep, in fact the only reason I found her was because I was digging in there (carefully) and felt/saw something ever-so slightly move. So I gently poked it again and saw a little red snake pop her head out as if to wonder who woke her up from her nap.
Just a little story I thought I would share.
Lesson of this Story: Remember what you put in your tank. Especially if you put it there purposely for a hatchling to burrow in. |

I have a classic (which is believed to be an Alabama locality) who is ALWAYS under her newspaper on top of where the heat tape is. She's only 44g, so she can flatten herself under the newspaper and I ALWAYS freak out and think she's missing. Then she proves me wrong by tagging my fingers as I look for her. :rolleyes: I also have a miami corn who loves to sit on top of the heat pad under the aspen (she's my only one in a tank). I also have a ball python that buries himself under the newspaper.

That is the same way Rose Red was like.
Yes it does seem that snakes are very good at playing hide & seek, what they are not so good at is telling you they are playing it :P
