    Paper bag method of feeding
My little hatchling friend decided to be shy so I put her in a paper bag with a fuzzy looking rat (f/t). It's been about 26 minutes and I'm sitting here all antsy! I heard some popping (like bone popping) noises and I can hear her moving around a bit. Is she eating or just squirming around? The amount of anticipation is killing me! I guess it's because it's my first time feeding her (feeding a snake in general actually).

Also the ambient temperature is at 75 in the tank and I have her in the bag which is in the tank which is half over the uth and under a 75watt heat lamp (black light). Should I bump up the temp? I'm scared that it might get to warm in the paper bag...

You can remove the black light, it does no good for your snake other than heat and there are better bulbs for that.

When I feed in a bag I just leave them overnight. Don't worry about noises, if the rat doesn't have it's eyes open yet, it's not going to hurt your snake.

How are you measuring your temperature in the tank and what other heating are you using?

I have to have the black light forth ambient temps. I have a VE 300 and an accurite thermometer with a ultratherm at the bottom

X2. And why didn't you just try feeding her in her tank first? Without the bag? Was f/t what she was eating previously?

Yeah so the tank temperature dropped while I tried to feed her using tongs and waving it slightly around her face. I warmed the ambient back up to 80. She was fed live before and lived in a tub so I thought the paper bag might help her feel more secure. Regardless he didn't eat it when I checked in the morning. That's ok though. I will be putting a very small rat pup with the f/t tonight or tomorrow night :P

You also don't want to offer food too frequently, that can put them off feed. Wait at least 4-5 days before offering food again. You may need to go live a few meals for it till it settles in. Then gradually work on switching to p/k, then working to f/t. But getting your husbandry right first will help. Get her warm enough, then time to settle in.

The temps are always 80 on the cold side and 87 on the warm side per request of the breeder and the snake's preference as well. This morning I left the paper towel that smelled like a rat next to her cage by accident and she came out again tongue flicking and looking for food I guess. I talked to the breeder and he said to try again tomorrow or so.

Just my 2 cents. It's your snake, do as you wish.
