    Started my project
I have started my cigar box guitar. I have taken apart my Gremlin guitar and have purchased a cigar box. I will probably use the neck from the guitar but I'm not sure because I have found out the neck is composite wood instead of a solid piece of wood. And I will be purchasing a wood bridge. Here are couple pics of the guitar and cigar box.

Is the first piece mahogany or walnut or...? The color on the second one is much nicer (cocobolo or rosewood or...?). Check both over for cupping and/or twists, end checking, etc. and go from there. If you're going strictly off looks, the second one would get my vote. Good luck with your project, looking forward to seeing how it turns out for you.

If you're working with walnut, it's a coarse-grained wood and the pores will tend to stay open unless you wet sand it or use pore filler. It's similar to red oak if you look closely at the grain texture on the wood. Not a big deal, just something to take into consideration if you want it to look nice and intend to finish it.

A cigar box is a 3 to 6 sting instrument used a lot in early blues. It was made by people who couldn't afford to buy a real guitar, so they used what they had lying around for parts.

Just a quick update. I have decided to make my own bridge, sorta. I'm going to use a bolt as the saddle and I bought a cutting board that ill cut up and make the bridge out of.
