f/t question

Okay, so I'm getting my new snake in a couple of weeks, and I'm trying to decide how I will eventually go about feeding him. He has been eating fresh killed pretty regularly at the breeder, not frozen thawed. I would like to eventually feed him f/t, but if he's been eating fresh killed, should I start him off with that? Or should I just start right out trying to feed him frozen thawed? Let me know what ya think.

Certainly doesn't hurt to go ahead and give f/t a shot. You can always back up to fresh-killed if you need to.

After he has sat in his tank for a week, feed him a fresh killed. This would make the transition a lot easier.

I agree with Ice' at least for his 1st meal (a week after hes settled in) give him what hes used to,to make his transition easier and to get him feeding with you.Than try a F/T the next time , whats cool is hes almost ready for F/T. :P

I talked to one of the Hampers today and he told me to try this method: leave the frozen mouse on a paper plate at room temp... like when you wake up pull it out and plop it on a plate or something then feed it when you get home or that evening... is it okay for a f/t to sit that long? Also my mice are thin because they're kinda smooshy does that make a difference?

Smooshy mice are ok. I guess if the Hampers say it's ok to leave it out all day, then maybe it is. But I wouldn't do that. If you want to be sure it's thawed completely, do the same thing they said, but put it in the fridge for the day...then just warm it up before serving. You should warm a room-temp mouse anyhow. I leave mine in the fridge overnight, the night before I plan to feed. (Or at least I try to, sometimes I forget! LOL)
