Nix

Anyone ever use NIX to treat mites? did it work for you and would you recommend it?

Could and should are two vastly different definitions. You could use Nix but as to the should part of that...that's up to you to decide. I have heard of a very few people who have used it and supposedly had success with it. I'd spend the money and get P.A.M. (Provent-A-Mite). It's not cheap but it's effective and if you follow the directions, it works. That would be the stuff to use if you're dealing with an active outbreak; it kills the adults along with the eggs.

This product works for a "maintenance" product: spray it on your tubs/snakes once a week or so and it keeps mites from coming back if you missed any from the prior outbreak but it isn't what I'd use for an active infestation, just as a stop-gap measure to keep them mite free after you finish with the P.A.M. course of treatment.

I've used it and I had no ill effects. If you don't follow the instructions on the PAM you can kill your snake. With NIX, you just mix the little bottle with 1 gallon of distilled water and spray everywhere. Works wonders and you get 1 gallon of treatment for less than 20 bux. Pam is much more expensive for much less. I only needed to treat once on 4 snakes. Mind you my infestation wasn't super bad, but the NIX worked wonders an worked fast. No complaints here.

I've used Nix and it worked just fine for me.

Thank you all I have used P.A.M. before but dislike how you have to be so careful or you can kill all your amphibians or even reptiles so until I feel comfortable with that I'll try the NIX and let you know my results the out break is in 2 racks now and been fighting it with the Natural Chemistry De Flea Reptile Mite Spray for Pets which is a great product but it is $10 for a 9 oz. bottle or over 35 for a gallon where NIX I can get 2 gallons for around $20-25 in my area so will see how it goes.

So how did the Nix work out? We just found a Mite crawling on Avalon's water bowl, so I went an picked up the distilled water and a bottle of Nix..

Just want to make sure this is a safe to do and reconfirm how it is done..?

Mix 1 small bottle of Nix with 1 gallon distilled water and spray everything right?

Even the snake?

What about her head and eyes? Should I avoid spraying her there?

Do I take her water bowl out for awhile? When should we put it back in?

Do you spray just once or every day? How many days in a row?

My baby boa aquired mites at the expo where I got her. I talked to Rich at length about Reptile Spray. I was a die-hard PAM user too. Not any more! OMG, this stuff was amazing! And SO EASY to use. This stuff is so safe, you can actually soak your snake in it. The mites die immediately - this works on the exoskeleton of the insect and will kill mites and their eggs. I treated Pandora in our hotel room that night and did not bring home a single mite!! This works ON CONTACT and once she was wiped down with it, she was instantly mite-free.

You can put it directly on your snake, and wipe down their enclosure with it too. Spray it directly on the substrate and allow the whole thing to dry then put your snake in and you're done. I will use this from now on. :gj:
