What Space Heater Do You Use?
I am moving my snakes from my room to a controlled "facility" so instead of using heat tape I plan to heat the entire room with a space/room heater. I've seen some with built in thermostats that shut off when they heat to the correct temperature.

But idk which ones are good. So what do you guys use? Do you just plug them in and use their thermostat or do you hook them up to another tstat?

I would try to get one without an internal thermostat, then regulate it with a Ranco thermostat.

I bought my oil filled radiator heater at Lowes a couple years ago. I think the brand is Pelosi. It has as a built in thermostat. I run the heater on a Ranco thermostat, which is set to 80f and I have the built in thermostat set to about 90f as a back-up. If you choose to use an external thermostat, I recommend either a Ranco or Johnsons, because they can handle the wattage draw of the heater. I also recommend either ordering it pre-wired for a heater or doing it yourself, using a heavy duty extension cord.

Most types will do I used oil filled heaters with a Johnson thermostat I had a digital one for a bit but when the T-stat turned off the power it came back on with the default settings (72º) too cool so I returned it. Simple ones are better than complex and external T-stats are much more reliable.

So I take it yours won't default to a lower temperature once the Ranco turns it back on? Is it a model with a dial-setting for the thermostat?

I picked up an SMAL digital oil heater from Home Depot recently but it only has 70, 75, or 80F settings and I want 78F, since this'll require less energy. (I have UTH's with thermostats on the cages that keep the cage cool-temp at 80-82F). But when the heater is unpowered and then repowered it defaults to the 70F setting. Yours sounds like the ticket...

I've been using an old duracraft radiator/oil style heater for well over a decade now and the thing is still running strong.

I am very soon going to be working on this same thing. I am going to need to rig up a space heater. Good to know that the Ranco or Johnson thermostats are good for this. My main question is where to place the probe for the thermostat.

We use a wall mounted heater/AC unit all in one. It has a built in thermostat for normal use. However, we also have two separate room temp sensors that are connected to our ADT alarm system to check for temp spikes. After what happened at Pro Exotics, I do not want to leave anything to chance. Good luck!

I use this coupled with a Ranco thermostat: http://www.target.com/p/holmes-hoh30...&term=radiator heater

I just set the internal thermostat a couple of degrees higher than the Ranco.

Where do you place the temp probe for your Ranco?
