    Male Ball Python Breeding Weight
I'm really confused whether or not I should breed my male pewter. He is 505g and I would like to breed him with my female 2000g. Should I? He eats pretty well but I've been hearing that I should wait until he's at least 700g and some say I should go ahead because they bred their males at 400g.

    Inputs??? Thanks!

You can try and throw him in. If he goes off food and starts to lose weight just pull him from your breeding cycle. 500g is what I usually start my males at. You just have to be conscious about him eating or not...

Doesn't hurt to try. i have a male mojave in with my pinstripe girl now and he's only 380 grams. and he's locked with her twice already. now if he's shootin blanks or not who knows lol. but i don't think it will hurt letting the lil guy get some practice.

My pastel butter started locking with my females at 300g. I did have slightly different rules for pairing him though. He only saw a girl every two weeks, and if he skipped a meal he didnt see a girl until he had eaten 2x. It seems to have worked as it looks like he sired the spider and pewter clutches I have hatching now!

Wow that is small I would be scared of my girls squashing a 300g male.

He did just fine :D. Here is a pic of him when he was closer to 350g.

I have won and lost that battle, be careful and monitor closely when breeding young small males.

Alright, my male doesn't waste any time when I feed him so I "think" he will do just fine. I will make sure that he eats and if he doesn't, I'll pull him out. Thanks for the inputs.

its weird because my male has locked about 5-6 times this season and he still eats! i think its all about the individual males
