    Tub Sizes . . . .
OK I'm officially addicted to Ball Pythons. I have 3(2 in terrariums/1 in a tub) and I'm commissioning my father to build me my first rack system. All of my snakes are still very young at 6-12 weeks. I plan on acquiring more young ones on up to yearlings, and need to know what size of tubs is advised for I guess what would be the first half of their growing period. Up to 3 feet maybe. The adult size 41-45 quart rack will come in the future. Size suggestions?

I usually upgrade hatchlings to 16qt tubs at around 200 grams. But if theres a snake who is a really picky eater or sensitive in general, I keep them in their current tub for a longer time.

This is my tub to weight ratio:

    6 qt - Hatchling
    16 qt - 500 grams and smaller
    28/32 qt - 500- 2000 grams
    41 qt - 2000 + grams and large females

I would also advise to use IRIS tubs. They are easy to replace if you ever need new tubs. Sterilite and Rubbermaid always change their tub styles so it may prove difficult for you to find replacements in the future.

For yearlings and younger, then perhaps a 16 qt or a 28 qt with a divider will be good.

I often keep my hatchlings in a 6qt tub until around 500 give or take a few grams. Then I give them a 15qt til about 1000 then females go to the 41qt and the males to the 28's.

Thanks for the great info. Heading to Office Depot to look for some tubs. Any other suggestions on where to find them?

Wow... a ~500g in a 6 qt sounds excruciatingly tiny.
My 500 gram snakes would have no place to move or properly thermoregulate in a 6 qt tub. Same for the ~1000g in a 15qt tub.........

While you can't look at them in hand, you can get 10 quantity stacks for a decent price. You can always go into the store, see what you want and then look online for the best deal.

They sell IRIS tubs online too, so don't discount it yet. ;)
