50w infrared lamp ok to use 24/7 in 10 gal tank?
Is it ok to use a 50w infrared lamp on one side of a 10 gal aquarium 24/7? And is a heat pad necessary if I do this? I have a hide on each side of the tank.

Infrared heat lamps can be used 24/7 without any issues. If the 50 watt bulb can create a 90 degree hot side and an 80 degree cool side in the 10 gallon tank a UTH isn't necessary.

I would recommend that you get a 75 watt infrared heat bulb and a lamp dimmer that way you can dial in the right heat output.

As long as it gives you the proper temps you can. Depending on the room and it's temps it way work or you may need more heat. You could get a 75 or 60 and use a dimmer to dial it in. Also using lamp stands give you the ability to raise and lower the light which in turn lowers or raises the temp.
