    SO CONFUSED about shedding?!?! =/
So my Pastel girl was about to shed, so I rubbed Repti shed aid on her skin. The next day she looked like she had just shed and her eye caps were gone but no skin was left in the tub!!!!! So now her skin is all wrinkly and weird... She has shed perfectly twice for me i'm thinking the shed aid messed things up... Any idea if shed aid PREVENTS sheds? Confused...

Snakes will go into blue, clear up, then shed. She probably hasn't shed yet. I don't use that shed aid and never plan to, you don't need it IMO.

Shed-aid certainly isn't necessary, and personally I wouldn't use the stuff.

After the blue phase of the shed cycle they should look normal again for a few days before they actually shed. How was the cage humidity?

You probably caught her in the middle of a shed cycle. They go blue, clear up, then shed. If your humidity is right, you should never have the need for that shed aid stuff. I would guess you intrupted the shed cycle.

It's a glycerine based, commercially available shed aid. Available in Canada...not sure about US.

Yeah it's available at PetSmart in the U.S. and I have to agree that it's not necessary at all. There are many methods to help a bad shed. The best method is to keep healthy humidity and sheds will come naturally. Don't be fooled by such products. Looks like some company trying to make a quick buck.

I would agree snakes go blue and then clear up and shed a couple days later. As for any type of shed aid I would advise against using it until there is an issue. When the snake goes blue this is actually fluid they produce between the new skin and old. When you apply shed aid, soak the snake, or get them wet you can wash this fluid away and lead to a poor shed. So I would not use anything to aid shedding unless there is a problem and you have a stuck shed concern.

Beat me to it. The shed-aid is junk, not worth the bottle it comes in IMO. As long as you're providing proper humidity, your snake should shed fine without any help. Applying anything to the snake during the normal shed cycle can indeed wash away the natural oils that separate the layers of skin, actually causing a bad shed. I would advise you not to intervene until after the snake has finished naturally shedding, and only then if there is a problem with stuck shed due to low humidity issues.
