Just asking your oppinion

I would like to get another snake (next year is most likely) I would love to get a boa of some sort, but there are probably many snakes I have never heard of that you guys know about because you're pros. So here are my criteria and I welcome any and all opinions, I know I'm not getting it for at least a year, but i figured it would be fun to study the snakes you mentions.
here are the criteria
1 I like boids... I REALLY like boids... i think they are gorgeous and I love snakes with thick middles
2. Friendly is a big priority I'd rather not have a snake that is often cranky, I don't mind or fear bites, but I just want a friendly snake that I can handle.
3. Size - Basically I'm looking for him/her to be about the size of a full grown adult BP obviously give or take a foot or two
4. Good color- If i get one more snake it will likely be my last at least for the next good long while as I am young and want to be sure I have the funding for long term care and possible emergencies with my two buddies. Thus this snake like my BP will be a display snake and I would like to have a pretty color or cool pattern on him/her.
5. Money - I don't have a thousand dollars for a snake... probably anything over four hundred would be pushing it... but feel free to suggest anything up to six fifty as I can always save up and get it later if I fall in love.

Hmm...This is a toughy... Ok, lets see. There are "dwarf" boas, such as a Central American BCI, a Hog Island Boa (which is also classified as a BCI I believe)..There are Carpet pythons that usually stay around 6-7 feet if that (some more, of course) and many of them aren't too expensive. There are Brazilian Rainbow boas, or any rainbow boa for that matter. Umm....Childrens and Spotted pythons usually stay small, but they aren't too girthy. There are a TON of others, that I know people here will think of. If anything, just do some research on the ones I mentioned and see if there was anything you like in those suggestions. Most of those stay +- $300 (most not even that).

Ugh....Ok genetics...Here we go. :) If you bought a 100% het albino mate for your normal bp Sage, you would get absolutely no albinos. You would get clutches full of normal looking babies that are all 50% possible het for albino. What this means is half the clutch (or 50%) will carry the albino gene and be 100% heterozygous, and the other half of the clutch (or 50%) will be completely NORMAL, and not carry the gene at all. To get albinos out of a het to normal breeding, you will need to breed all the female offspringback to the heterozygous dad, and eventually you will get albinos. OR if you really want albinos faster, just buy a 100% het pair for albinos, then you will get a 1/4 chance of getting an albino the FIRST breeding from a het to het pairing. :) (1/4 means out of every 4 babies, one should be an albino). This is all statistically, by the way, there are the weird ones out there. :eek:

Jen gave you a pretty good list. A Jungle Carpet python makes a beautiful display animal, as does a Green Tree python. A GTP is at the upper limit of your price range, though, and you may not be ready to care for a GTP, as they are very demanding as far as care requirements, and unforgiving of mistakes.

Plus those "arboreals" aren't the sweetest natured snakes...But VERY display-ish. :)

It was a post made directly under Marla's post in this thread. It said something to the concern of "I want to get a mate in the future for my Sage, I was thinking about a het albino. What are teh chances I would produce an albino?" And I answered, but when I submitted, that post was gone. :( Maybe he erased it, but anyway, there's your answer if ya want it. ;)
