heat tape and probe kit questions
I am buying flexwatt for the first time and was just wondering if the flexwatt crimping tool is mandatory for assembly or if I can get away without it?

Also, I'm going to order a probing kit. Do I need the 5 probes or is the 3 probes good enough?

As far as the Flexwatt goes, you can solder the connections, which are much better connections than crimping. There is a video here that shows the best way to do that. I have the 5 probe, that allows more range of size of the snake you are going to probe. However, I will say that now I almost never use the probes. Popping, even adults, is much easier. It just takes a bit of practice.

You don't need the crimping tool to wire flexwatt. I use a pair of lineman's pliers to crimp mine.

I don't know about the probe kit. Sorry...

If you buy it from Reptile basics they will wire it for you for free.

This is true. I buy all my flexwatt from RBI, but I only buy the tape and clips. I don't get the $5 cords because I can buy the same thing from Walmart for $1.50 and wire them myself. But you can honestly never go wrong buying from Rich at Reptile Basics. Great products, great prices and unparallelled customer support. I placed a flexwatt order on Monday and got everything on Wednesday.

Except in my ocd mind I wouldn't trust anyone to connect wires to flexwatt, nice service but not for me.
    I suggest soldering :gj:

No special tool needed. However, if you are used to buying from RBI, get their $20 probe kit. Very nice quality for the price. I usually have Rich attach the cords to my flexwatt, just one less thing to do when I am building my racks.
