Found my Girl
Went to our local reptile show this past weekend. Wasn't sure I'd be able to go because we had inventory at work that weekend (a pipeyard and fittings warehouse. Yay measuring pipe to the 1/4"... with 8 acres of pipe...)
Since I'm a member of the society that hosts it, it was hard to walk away from all the awesome deals my friends/vendors were offering, haha. "Here, I'll give you this BP for $200 off, because I know it'll have a great home with you!" "Interested in some supplies? Come on, you're a regular! Of course I'll give you an awesome cut in price."
Do you know how hard that is? Haha. That's why I bring my camera. I take pictures of all the ones I love... It's cheaper than bringing them home!
End of the show rolls around and we're starting to get everyone organized and packed up. I end up hanging out at Ecothermic Reptiles table and chatting with the owner and some of my pals. I start glancing over the cresties, which are higher end stock brought in. Didn't imagine I'd find anything to catch my eye. Until I picked up a male and started looking him over. He was so pretty. Nice head, bright red, patterning on his legs and feets. Just a cutie. So I popped open the lid and took him out for a closer look. He had a bit of growing to do, but was a nice hefty size already. Then I tilt my head, look at the owner and I'm like:
"Kelley, this boy is a girl, you know."
"What? No way. I checked them all this morning."
Sure enough, it was a gorgeous little female. Probably passed over by being marked as a male.
So I put her back in her container, continued chatting... And picked her up again to give her another look.
"You know you have to get that girl, right," my friend tells me.
"Psh. I don't have the money to drop on a high end gecko right now. Or an enclosure."
The owner walks by and goes: "I'll give you half off her price."
...... Crap. Now I'm in major trouble.
Then my friend starts telling me about sterilites for sale right now and how I could convert it to an enclosure for now and get an exo terra later. And we start brainstorming shelves so that I'd have room for her. And then I text my other half and ask if I can move my collection into the bigger bedroom so I can get a wire shelf system (the 6' ones). He says Absolutely!
So now I have a female Crestie. And she's just a love! And beautiful. Not the highest end Harley, but those girls get up into the $400-$600 range. This little beauty was totally affordable.
Picking her up next week most likely. As such, I'm cheating on the photos for now. But I promise I'll get some nice shots when she's home. Love the contrast between her and my boy. He's a Buckskin Dalmation. And now I have a Red Harley. Exactly what I wanted. Squee!
I love her feets. Looks like she's wearing fingerlress biker gloves.

Thanks! :D I love how varied they are too. I've been looking for a red female that I liked for a while now. But I'm so picky, so it gets difficult. She's got awesome head structure. Not a huuuge crown, but it's heavy enough to droop a bit when you look at her in person. Good weight. Just the right dusting of dalmation spots (my weakness). And her chin is so blushed that it's Superman red when she's fired!
I'm going to get in trouble from my other half for 'buying another one', but at this point, that'll be worth it to snag this girl up. Friend of mine has one very similar to her (slightly better Harley markings, same body type and head) that he grabbed for $400. So I'm happy

It's just so satisfying when you find the perfect fit! And sizable crowns are always a plus. I was so heartbroken because I found my dream black pewter female today, but alas, no more snakes, especially with a $500 price tag. The bright side is that I know what breeder to keep my eyes on in the coming years when I do have the room.

Haha, I know what you mean. My significant other and I had discussed "No more pets" until we could figure out how we were configuring space.
And then he got a green iguana hatchling a week later
Get some update pics when you get her in, can never have too many crestie photos :D

Iguana?!!! Hahahaha. So much for space!
I actually am picking up a 6ft wire shelving system (the chrome style ones). So I'll be able to put my hermit tank on the bottom, geckos in the middle and stack my snake enclosures beside it. So it'll look way more organized than it does now. So hopefully that helps the "See I don't have THAT many" argument. Haha.
All of my critters are getting a photo shoot once I move rooms. My male crestie is massive now, and still growing. And my garg has doubled in weight since January. Definitely gotta update the pictures
Mike: Thanks! She's so sweet too. I'll toss you a message when I get some shots. She's just hot.

Re: Found my Girl
haha, i did the same thing at our show last sunday. th GF and i went "just to look" with the understanding that we cant fit any more pets in our house. i walked over to a gecko breeder booth and picked up a little pinstripe crestie that i fell in love with. the GF was oogling a blazing blizzard leo with a broken/stub tail. the guy was like "you NEED that crestie. i said "i'll buy this crestie if you throw in that stubby tail leo" thinking that i got outta that one. the dude was like "done". dang. plans out the window. so i said i had no cage for the crestie. back outta the deal again. dude gives me a good size critter keeper for $5. needless to say, plans flew out the window and we are 2 geckos richer..............it was a good choice.
