My first venomous find. OBX vacation herping.
Well, actually my wife found it I guess. ;)
We were at the Hatteras lighthouse and found some trails behind it. They went around some wetlands so we poked around a bit and found this guy. Pretty sure he is an eastern water moccasin. We were pretty excited. I was hoping he would show us his cotton-mouth but he didn't even react other than a tongue flick :lick: when I pushed the brush away to take a picture. He was a beautiful orange, I can't even find any pictures of one this color.

We go all the way down to Hatteras, the house we stay at is right by the ferry to Ocracoke. The lighthouse is in Buxton. When you leave the lighthouse there is a new road to the left and a parking area with some picnic benches. There is a "dog must be leashed" sign by a path and nothing else to mark it. It was a 3/4 mile loop that went around some marshes. The girl at the lighthouse museum actually gave us a map and said to watch for snakes on that one and we were like "perfect!"
