Beeding for feeders and breaders?
I meant bedding for feeders & breeders.
What kind of bedding do you use for your feeders & breaders?
I have a way to get free wood shavings and most of it is poplar and maple. Is there any wood based bedding to stay away from for rats? I don't want to use something that could hurt or kill off my little colony.
Any help will be much appreciated!
Re: Beeding for feeders and breaders?
I use aspen bedding myself works great. I have heard you need to stay away from pine and cedar for bedding the oil in the wood may be harmful.
Re: Beeding for feeders and breaders?
I use pine shavings for my rats and pine pellets for the mice.
Poplar and maple are hard woods and I would have to believe, even as shavings they would not be very absorbent. Keep in mind that poplar is sometimes referred to as a soft hardwood, but IMO still probably would not make a good bedding. All this is JMO.

Cool sounds like pine would be a good choice. Thanks for all of replies.
