Is it wrong to express yourself...
Through song or poetry if it affects others around in a negative way?

Just curious of others take on this cause some lyrics I wrote.

Who hurt you, my child? You tell mamma who hurt you!

I'm inclined to say yes, if it truly offends them, and they can't simply ignore it or remove themselves.
That being said, I don't think that happens very often, and very little offends me personally. I'd like to know more about what you're talking about, if you're willing to share.

I think most people need to man up. People are too easily offended by anything that is different than their own opinion these days. I say express yourself. Screw those who can't handle it. If it is such a problem, they can express themselves by not listening to your music.

I think that there are lines that shouldn't be crossed, and expression shouldn't be deliberately meant to have a negative impact on others.

I'll share more later cause I'm about to go into work but basically my ex and I split up about a month ago after almost 7 years. And the lyrics offend her. And it's more than one song. Most of the songs either blame her or consist of dark topics that I need to get off my chest. None of which I'd ever act on though.

If they offend her then tell her not to listen or to ignore them or something.

I get offended by stupid people saying stupid stuff and asking stupid questions all the time but i dont get all butthurt over it...

I think I understand. A little catharsis goes a long way for me as well. It certainly doesn't sound like something that she can't opt out of, so I think I agree with AK907.

This leads me to believe that you wrote about physically hurting her. If that is the case then that is truly messed up and no you shouldn't make them public. You should go to your nearest shrink and get some help immediately!

If I totally misread that then as long as you are aware there can be consequences for putting that stuff out there then go for it. Think about it this way. Who is going to really want to be with the guy who puts all their dirty laundry out for all to know? Also, don't get caught up in a defamation of character suit.
