I was wondering the same thing. These articles were very helpful. The first is a review of square and the second is a comparison between square and intuit card readers.

This one scored different areas of square's service and it kind of turned me off of the product. It sounds like they will randomly place holds on your transactions without reason if they deem them to be 'high risk' and their customer service sounds terrible...

Looks like squares card reader is a little harder to use then intuit but the main thing that really interested me was that intuit offers a Bluetooth desktop card reader that has a receipt printer on it. I think that's a great idea because I'm sure some folks might be kind of sketched out on using their credit card over someone's cellphone.

I have one, but haven't used it yet. Had it for a few years now.

I also have the new Paypal reader as well. I know that both Heather and Frankie use the Square (both mods here).

I've got one and have used it several times. Works great and the fees are comparable to Paypal. They are particularly useful if you vend shows.

That's what I got mine for.

Been looking at the one from PayPal, but have a question concerning these. Do you have to be a business to qualify?

Nope, you can get one and link it to your personal account. They work well on 3G networks and I've had no problems. When you first use it, they may hold the funds for a few days until you build a history, but I've not had any problems. Sure beats paying monthly merchant fees.

Thanks Don! That's what I needed to know. Only thing left is to decide which one to go with.

I use the square card reader. I really like it and have never had a problem. We use it at several shows a year. I like the fact I can take a photo of the customer, add a gps locator to show him/her where they bought said animal and email it to their home account. That way, the customer cannot deny the charges and they get a receipt via text and email instantly.
