    adoption finalized today!
Well its been a long battle but we finally had our day in court today. We won!!!! Ive been trying to adopt my 13yo step daughter for over a year now and the scum bag that had the legal rights fought me every step of the way. He hasnt so much as said hi or waved to the kid in over 4 years. He just loves to torture my wife by dragging every thing out. Well today we had our court date and even though he battled us the whole way the guy didnt even bother to show up for it. so the judge heard our side of the case and granted me custody. its been a good day. we celebrated by going out to lunch and then having ice cream at our favorite local creamery. and we are going to the county fair tomorrow. we are all looking forward to a family portrait in the near future. She wants to do it with us all holding our favorite bp's. Ive been looking into it but no luck so far finding a good photographer that will get close enough to the animals. lol

Congratulations! I have seen this pain myself with my best friend. Long story short, he was working out in the field (sometimes he would be out for a month or two at a time) and while he was away she ran off and kidnapped his young daughter. He returned to an empty house as she had sold many things to get money to skip town.

It took a year or two to fight the court systems to gain custody and strip the mother of practically all say in her daughters life. She didn't have the money or the will to even show up in court. Fast forward a couple years to the present date. My friend is remarried to a wonderful lady who has adopted the daughter so should anything happen to him his wife would gain custody. Also...not one penny of child support ordered to be paid has been received.

Seeing him go through those times was very trying and tiring. I know how you must feel right now. I hope that Ice Cream tasted real good! *holds up his spoon* since I am eating some ice cream right now....this bite's for you!

Congrats! I wish I could take our oldest from his dad. He is a complete waste of oxygen and I would have no hard feelings if he got hit by a bus on my doorstep, I might even pee on his body. But with that said, momma wont take a kid from his dad as she lost her dad when she was little. Still have more reasoning to do.

If we did go to court he probably wouldnt show. He'd probably be in jail, unable to catch a ride as he has a suspended license and cant afford a car because he cant keep a job for more than 4 months because he keeps going to jail! So id probably win. Now to convince the GF.

Grats! Beware though. Such a photo could end up in Awkward Family Photos. :)

For the rest of her life your step daughter...sorry, your daughter, is going to hold on to how hard you fought for her. How much you love her to make her yours. You didn't have to do this but you did. Not many kids get to see first hand somebody battle for their best interest. She's a lucky girl. Congrats!

    You better post those photos!

From how it sounds, you were her father long before any paperwork made it "official". :gj:

Having been threw something similar with my SON:) I will tell you there will come a time when they ask or want to know why the other parnet gave up. My advise is let them figure it out on there own all my wife and I did was let him look at the letters and cas file and make up his own decision and well he got it eventually. Our situation was a little different but I hope this advise help you avoid the your not my dad syndrome I went threw  And now we are raising Ball Pythons and rats together and loving every minute of it. Congrats on the adoption and I am glad you stayed the course and won the battle sounds like she is in a much better place and your family is the better for it :D
