    Escape-Proofing a Tub
I had my first (and hopefully last) escape yesterday. Apparently Yiggie pushed one of the corners of the tub lid up and headed out - no farther than the next room, fortunately. I put her back in tonight and placed some large binder clips in that corner, along with others spaced around the cage. Wouldn't you know it - the snake pushed up the lid corner so that it came out of both binder clips before I stopped her. She is now sitting in her travel tub inside the regular cage, so she'll stay put while I figure out what to do.

I'm wondering if I need a new "lock" - e.g. luggage straps - or a new enclosure entirely. What do you think?

Sounds like you definitely need to change something! I use velcro straps on my free standing tubs/tanks and haven't had an escape since the old encyclopedia days.

I used these once upon a time because losing snakes is no fun...

You just nail the shelves so the tubs just barely slide into the slot preventing the lids from being pushed up and allowing the snake to escape.
You tape heat tape (flexwatt) to each shelf and wire them inline and plug it into a thermostat.

I had this happen twice in the last week with my clown girl. She pushed the corners of the lid an escaped. Even after I put a heavy dictionary on the lid she still managed to get out. I am now putting heavy books on all corners until she is done quarantine and ready to go into her rack.
