    Reptile store very soon?!?!?!?!?!?!
So I came home from school today (after having to fix a flat tire on my truck and all that fun stuff) to find that my step dad has rented an 800 sq ft store. He told me he was thinking about a reptile store, and I told him I wasnt so sure about it. But now that we have gone this far, why not go all the way? So we have looked up all the laws and everything and hopefully we will be up and running very soon! I am very excited, and I have faith as my step dad already runs a very successful business... This was very random I am sorry, but I was just so excited I had to post it! I will keep everybody updated!

Very cool, that's eventually my dream: to open my own exotic pet store (almost done with my Management degree then going for a Small Business Certificate to get some good business knowledge before jumping in without knowing anything about owning and operating a business). I wish you guys luck.

That makes perfect sense... I would like to do that as well, but for now I am lucky enough to have a family member who knows all about that stuff. But I am very nervous about the whole ordeal. Mainly because I am worried that it wont be successful and that we will end up being spending more money taking care of our animals than we make... But I must keep a positive attitude and hope for the best! I am sure Sam Walton felt the same way when he created walmart.. haha

    Congrats! Very cool!

I'm sure it will do well if you're filling a niche that hasn't been filled already - hard to compete with Petsmart, Petco, etc.

What reptiles/amphibs are you two planning on selling there? BPs, Common boas, bearded dragons, chameleons are all good sellers. Think about the stuff that you see at shows - almost the same stuff that will sell well at a shop... throw in some oddball stuff and you'll keep a unique side that will bring people back.

    Best of luck!

Yeah I wasnt expecting to compete with petco and petsmart, I do figure I will have some competition with another local pet shop.. But to tell you the truth thats exactly what we had mind. We are getting setup with Lone Star pet distributers as well for some dry goods. We going to look for wholesale reptiles online too. Plus my step dad breeds jacksons chameleons and I am getting started with some leopard gecko and ball python breeding.. So I am really excited with all of this! We will selling online too. We still have to get fedex certified though.
