Injured rat and need advice ASAP

sorry for the double post but, I was doing my nightly checking and when I opened one tub I heard fighting from another, I quickly opened that tub to break it up and my black male immediately jumped into my arms visably horrified. So I put him on my shoulder and did everything I needed to do and when I went to put him back I noticed a small blood spot on his.tail, so I sat down with him and did a thorough check and found more abrasions on his tail.and about a 1/4" gash above his left rear leg. I put him in a in.a clean tub with newspaper as a substrate by himself, I applied a spray on neosporion + pain reliever. I gave him a hide to, aside from a vet visit,(i will schedule one dont worry) what can I do?!

Unless it is deep, or won't stop bleeding I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep the bedding clean and keep an eye on it. I once had a ferret grab one of my rats by it's cheek/lip area, it was swollen pretty bad. I cleaned it out and for a week or so had to feed the rat soft food so he could eat. I also used bird antibiotics (can't remember which, it had been a few years). He healed up just fine. Rats are resilient animals, I have even seen one lose it's foot in a fight and it healed without care (this wasn't one of my rats)

It doesn't sound like a very serious injury. I doubt you would actually need a vet visit unless you think he needs stitches. How deep is the gash?

Keep applying that Neosporin once a day or once every other day.
Keep the wound clean with Betadine. If you can't get Betadine, Hydrogen Peroxide is ok. But the Hydrogen Peroxide will sting.

Is that just for rats? I've use it in cuts before and it just feels like water almost... If it does just sting rats, do you know why?

No. For anything really.
I've used it on myself too and it strung. Haha.
Guess we all react differently. And I guess it depends on the injury as well. I've used it on pretty big scrapes and gashes. Little cuts, I just use water.

It was not bleeding nor is it now, its deep. But idk if its that deep. Ill keep it clean and keep an eye on him, he refuses to walk on the leg so idk...

If it's not bleeding and wasn't bleeding, then you can clean it well and watch it.

If it were MY rat, I would in theory CONSIDER supergluing the cut, as long as it looked clean and I cleaned it thoroughly with betadine first. But if the cut is only 1/4 inch, that's pretty minor for a rat. I've had a couple that got cuts, I assume from a squabble, and once put into nice clean bedding cage for a couple days, it healed right up. I would have done more in treating it, but she was one of the very flighty rats and you couldn't really handle her without a full on fight.

X2 on super glue. I have used this on my self to seal up cuts.

I just checked on him and the wound was closed, it was nasty looking when it first happened. He still wont walk on his leg but he seems to be doing ok, he takes treats from my hand so atleast hes comfortable
