Largescale harem breeding

Has anyone tried housing a large amount of rats together in a big tank?
I had a 90 gallon freshwater fishtank that I just took apart, and Im wondering if how effective it would be to breed in until I got my rack built.(about third on my project priority list atm) I wonder if they'd be able to jump out lidless? I mean its two feet high, and they struggle to jump out of my 35. I wonder if they would naturally stagger too, or if litters would come in waves like they do in my 1.5 XD As long as I was diligent about feeding off and freezing I dont think ammonia built up would be an issue. Ive got enough fans going to dispurse the air.

They'll figure out how to jump 2ft. I had a lovely pet rat who was very skilled at jumping 2-3ft up out of her play tub and into my shirt. It was pretty impressive.

They'll probably sync up their breeding and you'll have waves of babies. Even in a 90gal I don't think I'd have too many rats breeding. Waste builds up fast, and the more rats you have in there the more rats you'll have to wrangle in order to properly clean it. If you can set up a sturdy lid and everything I'm sure it would work well enough temporarily, but as a long term thing I think it would just end up being a big hassle (especially compared to a rack. I still don't know how I managed to go so long breeding rats without one).

The only problem I had harem breeding was with one of the females. She was absolutely sure no other rat could be a mother. So she would take all the babies into her nest and I lost a litter that way. And I would second you need good top for your tank. Once I want to a rack I had no more problems and my litters seam to have a much larger survival rate.

Hahahaha I would love for one of my rats to like me enough to jumo 3 feet onto my shirt lol.

And yeah! It definitely temporary. Beleive me I have DREAMS about when I get my rodent and snake racks built haha. Tank breeding is a pain, but it does the trick for now. Hopefully in 5 months time Ill have it finished.

Yeah I could see baby hoarding being an issue. Ive been lucky so far. Ive had hoarders, but not more babies than she coukd handle and the other two moms helped her out and just got pregnant again and worried about that lol
