Here's our new little guy! Austin named him Shaggy. He's about eight months old. We couldn't resist snapping a few pics while settling him into his new home!

Does he look like a healthy guy to all you experts?

Congrats, Judy! Austin looks delighted with Shaggy and it looks like Shaggy has a good setup. Do beardies not run the risk of getting caught in the props for the thermometers like bp's do? I guess their body type would lend itself to that being less of a problem for them. Shaggy has great contrast, too. I hope he wins Dean over. :)

Thanks Marla! He's a bit nervous. We set him on that log after taking a couple pics and he didn't move for several minutes. He was still in the same spot when we turned the lights out and left him alone. I'm fighting the urge to go peek at him, but I'm sure I'll check on him before going to bed tonight.

I didn't use the prop on the thermometer...it's just leaning up against the corner of the glass. If he starts knocking it around, I'll just tape it to the glass.

Shaggy looks great! Reminds me alot of my Beardie. His set-up looks awesome too! As close to perfect as you can get, I'd say! Congrats.....you'll have tons of fun with this lil guy!

Judy, ok, I figured if you'd used the prop you'd have checked into the safety of it first. :) I'm sure Shaggy is a little nervous his first night in his new home, but he'll be okay. How can he not be with such an attentive family? :)

No problem, Judy! I know you'll love your new addition.

Whats the temperament of Beardies like?
  • 03-17-2004, 01:09 AM
Beardies have awesome temperaments. They can be a bit jumpy or skittish as babies but they calm down easily with gentle handling. They have such awesome personalities.....mine makes me laugh on a daily basis.

Beardies are great! With regular handling, they are extremely tame. They enjoy being held and interacting with humans. They'll often sit quite comfortably on your shoulder or even the top of your head. I was at a reptile expo where one guy walked around for a couple hours with a beardie perched on the top of his head! Hockeymom (a member here) has one that her sons take for walks on a leash!
