Gecko escapees?

As y'all probably know, I want to get some crested geckos. I haven't had any geckos before, but have been reading care sheets for the last couple of weeks.

I want to make a custom enclosure that I adapted from a plan I saw for an iguana enclosure. However, that plan called for vinyl coated wire mesh and I went to Lowe's today and couldn't find any. What I did find was 1/4" and 1/2" hardware cloth and 1/2" plastic mesh. Theoretically I could use either of these in my plan, but I don't want hurt toes or escaping geckos.

So what I want to know is, do you know of a national chain that carries vinyl coated wire mesh in 1/4" or 1/2" size? If not, do you think crested geckos would tear or chew through the thin but tough plastic mesh? If so, would the hardware cloth hurt their little toes or tear off claws?

Thanks for any input you can give me!

Why go through he trouble. If you're having a screen cage you could get a completely secure metal cage or a reptarium cheap. Want me to provide links?

Nope. I've seen several online cheap. However, I *want* to build it to my size, and I don't have room on my credit card right now. Thanks anyway.
