    Pastel Het Pied?

He's cute. However, there really aren't any "markers" for a specific het. Unless you buy an animal from a reputable person as a known het, you have no way of knowing if it is or isn't.

I've seen many many normals and other morphs with the het pied tracks on their bellies. And only one of my het pieds has some small ones, the other doesn't. All the so called markers are is best guess, nothing more.

If you bought him as a het pied, or even as a possible het, you can try to prove him out. otherwise it's just wishful thinking my dear.

I bought him as a normal pastel. I loved the contrast in him. He is a mean little guy. He bites me every chance he gets. I guess its just wishful hopeing. Thanks.

So, with all the caveats about the phenomenal unreliability of het "markers", he does have them. Stronger than my actual pastel het pieds, even. I would even call that a touch of ringer.

It's still only a very small chance that he's actually het. A 100% het female is a nice thing to have lying around even if he doesn't prove out.... but it's still quite a lot of money for a very long shot.

He might be. Or he can just be a paradox too. Maybe someone that knows a little bit more about markers/paradox can answer. Overall he's a cool looking snake

Paradox has nothing to do with this....

People noticed a trend of these Pied "markers", it works well for trying to pick out possible hets. Now a bunch of people think you can pick out het pieds from random clutches, even if there was no pied in there in the first place. Normals have them, any morph can have them and not be related to the pied project at all. I've read stories about peoples possible het pieds with markers not proving out. If you bought him as a pastel, chance of him being het pied are really slim. IMO if he is a poss het, he might be worth proving out, if he isn't more than likely you're going to just be disappointed.

It cracks me up that everyone is so fast to point out the the markers for pied are not conclusive, yet those same individuals when looking at a clutch of known het pieds probably will seriously consider the strength of the markers. I know it is not a gaurantee, but why does is it seem that the first response is to downplay the significance. Just simply explain it. Done ranting, steps off soapbox.

Anyways to the OP. Your snake has markings that resemble those that the BP community has debated over as het pied markers. The question is would you be happy to produce Pastels? If so, pick up a 100% het pied female and breed it. The worst you can do is normals that are 50% possible het for pied or Pastels that are 50% possible het for pied. The best you may do, (real long shot) is a Pastel Pied. Have fun with it.

Normally when it gets brought up. it is not a pos het, it is a animal someone picked up, noticed the "markers" and is now thinking it's het pied. Kinda like this thread.

Yes, I would agree with this statement. I'll admit, wIth all the talk about it, it can be a reflex assumption these days.

It may be a good subject line for a sticky thread if someone with credentials wants to take the iniative to write it. "The truths and myths of Het Pied Markers".

Just out of curiosity, I was under the impression that the possibility of het pied markers only applied to "normal het pied" specimens. I thought they didn't apply to other morphs?
