Bee keeping... The honey making kind :-)

Any bee keepers on here? I got some local honey at my butcher shop the other day, and it is to die for. Hubby and I were talking about bee keeping, not sure if I can do it where I am, or what it would take. I haven't looked into anything yet, but anybody keep bee's and have their own honey???

I think there is a bee shortage everywhere.

MMM the best is getting the actual honey comb in a tin container. Just cut off a square squeeeeze the wax against the top of your mouth and get all the pure honey out of it then spit out the wax. BEST THING EVER!!!!!!

When I live somewhere that doesn't have neighbors so close by, I'd love to keep bees! Not just for the honey but for gardening/orchard purposes as well. My grandparents have a huge orchard out on their old property, and when they had a neighbor who had 5-9 beehives their trees produced TONS of fruit. Still do now but not as much since the guy's hives died out :(

Well boo. Did some research, looks like I need to get rid of some neighbors first. Oh well, guess I just have to to buy it.

I've always found honey bees fascinating. There are a few bee keepers in my area I've visited, I'd love to try it some day! Wish I could be more help :)

Bee populations have been in a rapid decline for the last decade at least. It's pretty bad...

I'd look into your local laws about bee keeping, if you aren't allowed to keep them, try and get together a group of people to try and change the law. I know they did that in NYC and now you can keep bees in NYC. :)

They really are valuable to any and every community, even if you have neighbors closeby. I think if you are into the idea of keeping them then you should go for it!
