    MITE HELP :c
I got a ball python about 4 weeks ago and he was fine until i brought him to my local breeder to check him to make sure if he was healthy for me. A couple days after I noticed mites. Now I can never hold him because I get itchy as hell !! I'm almost 100% sure its mites. I have no money. What would be the cheapest way to get rid of the mites?! Please I need to know ASAP!!

Provent A Mite (P.A.M.). If you're sure it's mites, that's the quickest and surest way of killing the little snots off. They're a pain but they can be dealt with. If you're on the East Coast, you might try Reptile Basics; not sure if Rich carries P.A.M. or not. If not, The Bean Farm does, but they're on the West Coast and shipping can be a tad steep. Good luck.

LLLReptile also carries it and Reptile Relief. You can get the combo pack shipped for around $30 which includes the PAM.

In a bind, you can give your snake a bit of relief by offering it a warm (cage temp) bath that does not exceed in depth half of the snakes body (going up the snake from its belly to its back). Add in a drop or two of Dawn Dish Soap, allow the snake to soak for roughly an hour. Any mites on the snake should be drowned (mostly). Check under his chin, and around his vent, as these are areas where mites LOVE to hide. Also rinse down the back ever 15 minutes to catch the mites riding out the storm on the back of the snake.

Reptile Relief does this same thing, but it kills mites quicker and gets them more effectively. Cautiion though: It will dehydrate your snakes skin after use. You must hydrate your snake in a bath afterwards. PAM is used on the enclousre and will aid in getting rid of the rest of the buggers.

Mites are harmless to humans, they may "show" on your skin, but they are not doing much except for using you as a body to move from one snake to another. If you have any other snakes in your collection be sure they all get PAM'd (cages that is).

    Good luck

This ^ X2. To provide your snake some relief until the prevent a mite arrives, you can soak him in water with a drop of dawn dish soap. This will help kill some of those little buggers, and get them off him.

Are you identifying mites as an issue with your snake because you get itchy after you hold it?

Can you SEE any mites? In the water bowl? On the snake?

Snake mites are species specific. They don't affect mammals. I wonder what's making you itchy?

Maybe they are mites, but the thought of them being on you is itchy? I don't know, but they shouldn't be on you or at least attaching to you. I had mites for a whole I got reptile relief and Pam. I used Pam on enclosure every 2 to 3 weeks and used reptile relief on my snake every 5 days. My snake is now in a tub so drying out is a thing in the past. She has been at 60-70% humidity. Everything is going good. Perfect sheds :)

    agreed with MrLang

don't treat a snake with chemicals until you know that snake needs it.
