Setting up a lightbulb incubator with thermastat

What's up everyone? Been searching around but couldn't find a solid answer.

As opposed to the heat tape route, I'm thinking about doing a light bulb setup on my soon-to-be wine cooler 'bator.

I was thinking either the VE-200, or the Herpstat 1. My question is, which would be the better choice for a 20w light bulb? I know the VE-200 doesn't have a dimming option, just pulsing and on/off. Would that be no good for a light bulb?

I'm trying to do everything right the first time, and other forums aren't as active/helpful as this one

Why avoid heat tape?

Light bulbs are terrible for humidity.. incubators need humidity. flexwatt is the best option

I would get the herpstat one. they are slightly more accurate and have more features for your dollar.

I'm curious why you'd want to avoid heat tape as well? Bulbs would ruin any kind of humidity I'd assume...

A few things about light bators. You'll want multiple bulbs not just one, two reasons multiple bulbs at lower watts will help keep temps more consistent and if one burns out you have time to replace it before temps drop too cool. Heat causes evaporation not light so flex watt or bulbs make very little difference. Make sure you put the lights either at the top if you have a low number of clutches that you can keep near the bottom away from the heat source. Or if you will have a full bator try to space the bulbs through out and put a shield around the bulb to help dissipate the heat. Put 2 or 3 fans to circulate heat. As far as the t-stats go I think either will be fine for the job.

X2. Any kind of electricity/heat source is a fire hazard. Flexwatt isn't any less safe than light bulbs.
