Snakes that escape

So I recently discovered that my favorite python has escaped. He managed to get out of the top off the exoterra cage he was in. This is not the first time I have lost a snake, many times it has been because I forgot to close a drawer or cage, they often turn up but sometimes they don't. It just sucks when it happens and I have to flip the whole house just to look for them, often they go into the crawl space and floor board. Everyone makes mistakes so I can't be the only one, but does anyone else have a tendency to leave cages open while they are feeding or cleaning and discover thier snake is MIA?

Not to be an ass, but no i really dont. Im like OCD careful when it come to that kinda stuff. I usually check on my snakes a few times a day. And before bed i always push on all the bins to make sure theyre pushed in all the way. Lol, then again i may be a weirdo.

Nope your not a wierdo, I'm OCD about that stuff too. Maybe we both are wierd?? I will go so far as if I'm checking snakes and can't see a body in a hide, to open tub and lift hide and peek, just to make sure they are where they belong. And if I've had them out, I have been known to double and triple check tubs are secure.

I guess that makes at least three OCD people on here, haha. My days starts with getting up and checking on snakes and temps. Before I leave the house I check again and then once more when I get home from work. While I'm home I find myself just casually checking on them several times in the afternoon making sure that I can get a visual on each snake and that their drawers are closed. Of course there is also the about to go to bed rack check. I am proud to say that I have never lost a snake at home or at work(nature center). :)

Yeah. I don't do it when I'm cleaning so much, but sometimes when I'm handling, because I'll let them climb the bookshelf or the desk. And then the doorbell or the phone rings, and I come back, and they're gone, and it takes me all day to find them. I've started writing myself notes whenever I handle them, so that I can't forget I've taken them out before I run off to a meeting. (Luckily the snake I did that to was my super mojave, who apparently thinks life is boring if nobody's paying attention to her. And when I came back she was still on the kitchen table, taking a nap under a dishtowel.)

I've also had escapes. I had a pair of girls break out several years ago because the latch on the Black Sand tank broke off, and evil genius black pastel figured out how to nudge the screen over. And the boys broke out recently because I put them all in the Exoterra tank one night while I was cleaning their rack, and didn't finish. And then our foster labrador retriever apparently pawed the lock open? Anyway George was under the water heather, Floyd was under the fridge, Melvin was in the closet with the wrapping paper, and Mr. Nibbles disappeared for two whole weeks. My husband did NOT like that. I've started using painter's tape on the tanks, to add an extra level of security.

Currently: all snake are accounted for. Whew.

my wife had a snake get out on her while I was in Ontario. She didn't push the bin in far enough, and it got out. Luckily she found it, and it was in the rack still, but behind the bin.

me, I make sure what I take out, goes right back in. I even put a small cardboard square under the bin (in front) to make sure it will not move.

not a fan of those exo-terra tanks for snakes.

When they escape i always check the rice.
