    Hide or no hide
Hey guys I have a quick question. My big normal girl is weighing in at ~2400 grams and I'm currently using the large size RBI hides for my big girls. I've noticed that she has basically outgrown this hide and the extra large hides don't fit in the CB70 tubs. She rarely uses the hide anymore at all and when she does she basically is just wearing it as a hat lol. So my question is, will she be ok without a hide in there. I know some of the bigger breeders don't use hides in the tubs of their breeder girls but I just wanted to get some outside opinions on this. Thanks :D:D

I don't use hides anymore in my tubs with larger snakes. If you use newspaper they'll have no problem getting under/in it when they want to hide.

As long as the tub is usually dark and not too big it should be alright.

I use paper towels. I've been thinking about switching to newspaper though.

I use hides for my younger/smaller animals (anyone that goes into a 15 quart tub or smaller); once they get to the 32 quart tub size and larger, they don't get a hide anymore. I keep mine on paper and they do just fine with that. Some of them "burrow" under it more than others but all of them eat just fine sans hides, so I don't know that it would be a necessity unless it causes a hunger strike.

    She should be fine.

Our XL Exo terra hide fits my 2500g girl. Shell always have a hide, due to her shyness

Once my snakes outgrow their small hides at around 300g they dont get a bigger one so I remove the hide and they grow up without one. I just use hides for my new smaller snakes.

some like hides, some don't care. If I have a BP who's being a picky eater I'll give them a hide, and visa versa.. I've taken hides away to invoke a feeding response. Usually it doesn't mater in a rack system. Take it away and see how they do. Chances are it will be fine.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

One of my young BP girls is starting to sleep outside of her hide(I have 2 in her tank),whereas I have one who sleeps on top of her hide, and one that only comes out of her hide to get a drink or search for food(she just shed around 3:30 this morning,I just happened to wake up),and spent 2 hours roaming around,so I guess today I'll feed her a mouse.Though Monday is feeding day with baby rats, she seems pretty hungry, but I have to put her in an empty tank or else she will just be on the opposite side of the tank from the mouse. My friends BP doesn't use a hide at all, doesn't want one I guess, but hey,all snakes are different =)
