Bad Shed

Hey guys, its time for my BP to shed again and its coming off in pieces this time wrather then a whole, so I was hoping to know when I should resort to soaking and if I do have to, the steps to soaking my BP to help him shed. Thanks

Here is my stuck shed remedy.

Basically my humidity is usually from 75-90% and the temp stays in the 90s. It's only been a couple of days but I wanted to ask in case I needed to anything. Whats that about a pillowcase? (thanks for the creative tool btw, I'll look into that one too)

Are you using an analog hygrometer (one of those little dial ones)? They are horribly inaccurate. If your humidity is truly 75-90% then you shouldn't be having a shedding issue. If so, that is your problem right there and I highly recommend getting a digital thermometer/hygrometer. Wal-Mart sells one made by Accu-rite for about $12 and they work great.

The pillowcase method works alright if you're already having a bad shed. It is a simple process of putting your snake in a pillowcase and misting it with warm water and putting them back in his tank/tub for a little bit. The humidity inside the pillowcase accompanied by the gentle abrasiveness of the pillowcase when the snake moves around will help to gently remove the stuck shed without stressing your snake too much.

I have a digital, now my humidity is bumped up to 99%, holy crap. Must be an effective new 'trick'. I have a glass tank with a vented lid, so I soaked a bandana, put it on top of the tank then put the lid over it and proceeded to put another soaked bandana on top of it with a slit about and inch wide for ventilation and the heat lamp over. So yea, my humidity is now up to 99%.

Your hydrometer sounds off.

Ack, no I read it wrong in, it has a shadow that goes over it, its actually 84% right n ow, but still, effective 'trick'

Yeah, there is no way it is accurate if his snake is having a bad shed at 75-90% humidity like the OP said. I'm still betting they have a defective hygrometer and the humidity is much lower than it says it is. Bad sheds on balls usually only happen when your humidity is extremely low. I've had several balls shed just fine at 40-50% humidity when I accidentally missed them going into shed. If it were truly 99% humidity like you say it is now you wouldn't be able to see anything in your tank. It would be all fogged over with water droplets covering the walls.

water is all over the walls right now but I just sprayed it really good too. So who knows where its at, all I know is its good and moist inside right now.

Too,moist is bad though! Thats how ri happens.
