Just picked up my first rats!
I just picked up my rats from one of our own, aldebono. She was nice enough to help me get started with rats and I'm so excited!

No pics for now because I'm not back home yet but I'll post some pics either later tonight or tomorrow.

    Thanks again Angela!

Nope! Couldn't wait. I'm not driving though so I used the time to post. I'm thinking of all the possible rat bites I'll be getting in the future and trying to decide if it would be wimpy of me to wear gardening gloves or something until I can tell when they are going to bite.

Like I said, the blue hooded female just thinks you have treats and will reach for your fingers regardless. But she isn't mean. I don't keep mean rats.

Alright so I'll just take them as they come haha the females were taking care of the babies when we stopped to get a cooler.

    Congrats!
I can honestly tell you that raising your own rats is extremely rewarding. I don't know, something about breeding your own rats is just as exciting as breeding ball pythons. haha

Looking forward to your photos later! :)

Oh that is great to hear! I'm assuming it was the white one (beige hooded) that was taking care of them. She is a very good mom and is always sitting on babies.

People food and especially ensure soaked rat block is great for keeping their weight up since they are breeding all the time. It's good to have it on hand, as well as babyfood to mix in Tylan as it shouldn't be mixed with dairy.

Yep, anyone who says the feeder breeders don't care about their rats is just wrong. We wouldn't spend as much time with breeding them if we didn't like them.

Congratulations on your new additions! Like satomi325 said, it can be extremely rewarding to breed and raise your own and every bit as addictive as ball python morphs when you get into the different coat types and colors, lol. Have fun and good luck with them!
