Got the new Salmon today, Apollo.
I picked his guy up from a college kid who had him crammed in a 20 gallon with no where to hide or feel secure, barely any heat, dry as a bone. Snapped a pic or two before I put him in his temporary recovery cage. He's quite stunning, much lighter than my other Salmon. A lot less pink/orange but his tail shows more of the Salmon features. Plus, he literally is the most docile boa I've ever seen. IDK if it's bc he's week from being treated like dirt, or bc he's happy to have a good home. Either way, I'm happy I found him. He'll have a nice long life here with me. So this makes 3, Apollo, Rocky, and Kona. No more, I promise... lol.

That's one gorgeous snake. It's a shame that they're treated so poorly by people sometimes but I'm glad he's yours now! Hope he does well for you- I'm sure he'll appreciate his new home :snake:

Always, especially since my snake room has my ball pythons. He is mite free though, I know that for sure. I have a little trick I use for mites, maybe if you guys are nice I'll share some day. But as far as IBD goes, no way I'm letting that stuff get to my BP's. I'd be sick to death over it.

IBD can lay dormant for years, so unless you keep him away from your pythons completely it's a risk everyone with boas and pythons take. Skip wrote a very interesting and eye opening article on IBD, I'd do a search for it.

Meant to tell you also, I've put him in a giant sterilte with nothing but a hide, paper towels, and water for now until I'm sure he's healthy. After that I'll get him an AP cage and give him a bit more of a "lifelike" setup. I'm going with the T13's for my boas. They are top notch over there, good prices too. Unless anyone here has any other suggestions... ? I need 3 actually.

Thanks for the tip Daybreaker, but believe me... I've been researching IBD for years. I won't even keep boas and pythons on the same floor. Won't use the same feeding tongs. Different rolls of paper towels. I'm very anal about that, having seen one of my good friends pythons go through it. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen in my all of my snake loving life.

I buy a few at a time, crack one open and cut it into about one inch squares, put those in squares in the cages. Then I put the remainder on the floor where the snake's room is, and hang another one near the door. I've seen a few mites, that were on Rocky (the first Salmon boa I got from Prehistoric Pets).. and those suckers were fat. I smushed and it was like an explosion went off. These weren't noticed until after he shed, so I went straight to wally world and picked up 4 of these. Have't seen another mite since. Kill em all! (any old metallica fans?) Good luck. amd feel free hit me up any time. I've well experienced. Most forums think since you don't have thousands of posts that you don't know jack. I can assure you, that is not the case here.
