I've searched with Google and can't find any care sheets for this one. Do you know of any? Maybe you could write one for John to host here?

I'm doing some research on my top three or four lizards to see which would be best for our family at this time. Any info you could give me on these guys would be helpful...including where you got him! :)

    Thanks!

Good Idea - we should do a complete one - here's a link to the (vague) ones in existence:

NOT specific to just gerrhosaurus major but: http://www.unc.edu/~dtkirkpa/stuff/plated.html

We got ours from a local store where someone had traded him in for a Python - currently I'd like to find another (preferably a mate) but have only been able to locate them for purchase online. We are headed to a modest reptile show this weekend and might see one there.

(wierd thing on that google search - "Sudan Plated Lizard" scores the hits and "Sudanese" gives you a paucity of returns)

Wow...thanks Smulkin. These help a lot. Silly me used "Sudanese" on google, rather than "Sudan." And I certainly should have thought to check and see if KS had a plated forum. I'll poke around there and ask some questions. So far, from the little bit I've looked at, I'm already seeing conflicting information. Like one caresheet says a basking temp of 90...but a guy on KS says over 110 !!! Quite a big disparity there.

I would be very interested in a care sheet you might do. (And I'm sure John would too!)

Yeah - I am definitely going to put one together and will see if I can't get in touch with others for a little contrib. Hot spot in our enclosure is about 98 with 79 on the cool - I'll work on the caresheet as soon as I can get through my work-work caca. They do like a good hide and to wiggle themselves down into the substrate. Ours is exhibiting a much higher level of intelligence than I had expected - came into the room yesterday and it headed over to its feeding dish and stared up at me expectantly so I went down and got him a nice juicy pear (they dig the juicy fruits), Given all thier positive qualities I am surprised these are not more poular than they are and have to wonder if breeding might not be problematic.

Will beat the hell out of the Tech Report I am in the middle of slogging through today - 'o bane of my existence!!

I have had a couple Gerrhosaurus major (I always prefer the Latin name, so there can be no mix up) for 3 years and still haven't found a good care-sheet. I'm planning to write one myself but still have to find the time to do it!

Naara, maybe you can Smulkin can compare notes? I'd really like to learn more about these guys, but there's very little to go on. I'd love to see some pictures of yours! :)

I haven't written anything yet. I'm too busy with the baby that's on the way.
Pics of my Gerrhosaurus major are on my website. Check it out sometime!
