Exploding rat

Hey ya'll

I did a noob move and heated my pre frozen rat up too quickly and now of course it exploded all
over my snake and his tub. My question is will he still eat this rat that has basically no guts in it
anymore? It's in his mouth but he's been swinging it around for about 8 minutes now...Is he fired up
because all the blood?

welp just took a quick peep over to make sure things were going well and turns out the entire body of the rat shot out from its
skin and all Pickles is eating is a head with a rat skin...He'll be hungry within a few days.

Ohhhh that's disgusting. Be aware that cooking the rat can also harm your snake. Next time thaw overnight and heat up with a hair dryer.

how did u heat the rat up for it to explode?

Never EVER heat up in microwave or anything similar. I always put very warm water in a cup and let it heat up that way, touch it to your wrist to make sure it's not too warm!!

How did you thaw this? I feed live or p/k, so I don't deal much with f/t, but I do know underthawed, and over cooked rats can be dangerous to your snake.

Weird anecdote time:

The local herp guy had a regular customer who always "pan fried" her rodents.
The snake would rest on her shouders and happily eat them like snacks.
The snake outlived her by many years.

Strange but true.

If you put it in the microwave, that was the problem, I always use a glass cup (used only for thawing mice, besides were in a plastic bag) & I would put hot water in the cup, and drop the mice in the bag in the cup, let it sit for about 20 minutes, check it for warmth through and out, feed to snake. Easy and done. Now that I no longer have but one snake that only takes live, no problem! :rofl: Kidding, there are so many problems with feeding live.

Wait, how did it explode in the tank? What?
