Ryobi IR001 Temperature Gun

Anyone use the Ryobi IR001 Infrared temp gun? It's $29.97 at Home Depot and looks decent and has good reviews. Just wondering if anyone has used one before. I can pick it up after work one day and don't have to wait to get it like I would if I order a different one online.

I got one a few weeks ago. Seems to work fine.

Most temp guns have the exact same specs for accuracy +/- 2ºF so as far as accuracy goes they often are about the exact same. The big difference is the DS ratio which is the most optimal distance the gun should be used with. Typically Royals are in smaller spaces and the long ratios are not feasible . A 50:1 is best used at 16 feet hardly useful for Royals, Crocs yup perfect. Typically a 1:1 or 6:1 (4 inches and 24 inches) are going to be the most useful. The other issue has little to do with function but is all practical use, what kind of battery does it take. I once had a meter that took 2 CR123a batteries... at 27$ each it was a nightmare when it was left on (hard switch) I gave it away the second time it was accidentally left on. I would check to see if it is a common reasonable battery, (AAA,AA,9V for example) some of the odd ones (N,CR series,buttons) can but found but not off the shelf in a general store but only at a speciality store personally I avoid these.

I saw the IR001 when I replaced my last Infrared Gun. It looks decent for the price point and will get the job done. The IR001 is +/- 4ºF and uses a 9V battery with an 8:1 distance to spot ratio.

I ended up going with the Tek4, my last gun needed to be replaced after it fell off one of my racks. The Tek4 will take a good fall and a decent amount of impact before it will get damaged.

+/- 4ºF that seems quite a lot... you pin a 90º and it could be anything between 86º and 94º that is a hell of a range. I'd not bother with it personally that is too large an error.
