    Stuck shed, 24hrs too soon?
I've had my girl for over 2 years now, and she's only had stuck shed maybe 2 other times... Problem is, I just fed her a small rat yesterday. Is it too soon to handle her to help get the rest of her shed off? Or has she digested enough of the rat so I can help her. Doesn't look like there's any stuck shed on her head, only her body.

After 24 hours you can almost be 100% certain it won't regurg the food. After 24 hours you can go ahead and handle to get the soak going!!

30 minutes later, she's shed free and looks great! Just wanted to be safe and not risk regurg. Can't get over the gold going down her back, it constantly seems to get lighter with every shed, so here's a pic because I can. :D

regurging happens to extremely scared or stressed out snakes, it's called the fight or flight response and in the wild they will regurge to be able to defend themselves or flee faster.
Unfortunately the rumor about handling them after a meal is the biggest regurgitated rumor out there

Good call on removing the stuck shed OP :gj:

Or in hopes that a would be predator chooses an exceptionally pungent, conveniently dead, regurgitated meal over the hassle of taking out a living snake.

I remember as a kid I would often handle snakes right before and after feeding. Besides a handful of pissy, eastern hognose regurges it was usually a clean house.

I've only handled her a few times after feeding because I had to, and she never seems to pleased with it. I always want to make sure she's happy as can be, so the minute I came home and saw her stuck shed, I had already began setting up her water tub to soak while I waited for an answer. I'm a better safe than sorry kind of guy! ;)

I'm hoping to get her weighed one of these days, she's getting realllly big, and she's going to be breeding with my friends pastel male this upcoming season, so I'm very excited!
