    help raising humidity
right now my baby rack is running about 40% humidity. i know thats alright, but still on the low end. im using the V-15 hatchling tub. ive got 3 holes drilled in the front and 1 on each side. theres 1 hide on the cold side and one a little more on the warm side in the middle. i tried adding a larger water bowl, put it on the warm side, and it only went up about 5%. the temp on the warm side is about 90-92 and 79-82 cool side. whats left to do to bring it up besides misting? it just doesnt make sense to me. my adult rack a bigger tub, (bigger bowl too) more holes in the sides, and its staying steady at 65%. what gives?!

What kind of substrate are you using?
You can try using Eco-earth, cypress mulch, or coco husk type of substrates. They retain humidity really well.

Are you measuring the hot spots directly on the tubs?
If the ambient temp is that high on the warm end and you have belly heat only, then I suspect the temp directly on the bottom of the tub is too hot?

How long did you out the large water bowl in for? If only a few min then the humidity was still rising most Likely. Try cypress mulch, or put some in a corner on the warm side.

i am measuring the heat directly on the tub. but wouldnt that help raise humidity if the water dish is placed directly over the heat source like i have it? the larger bowls have been in there for about 2 weeks. i used cypress mulch originally. but it peaked the humidity at around 90-95. im using newspaper in all my tubs. but i might have to try putting just a little in the corner. i think that might do the trick

I wouldn't recommend keeping the dish over the heat long term, personally, as the warmer water means ideal breeding ground for bacteria and nastiness - as well as poop soup if your snakes ever poop in their dish!

The suggestions to switch substrate were good, I use cypress mulch at home with success. While initially the humidity will be quite high, let it sit for a couple days - after a while the mulch dries out and you can more easily control how much water you add back to it to maintain humidity.

thanks for all the input. i switched over to cypress in my baby tubs. although it looks TOO humid, it stays between 65 and 70. i also put another hide in with each snake and just today all of them ate! live hoppers, but they ate none the less. i think the cypress and the extra hide made them all feel more secure. o, i also decided to put my spider het axanthic in with his het axanthic gf last night just to see what theyd do. theyve been locked since i woke up at 9 this morning till now. crossing my fingers on the odds with this one. guess ill put my other boys in with their girls tonight and hope for the best.
