    lowest weight after laying?
my female just weighed in at a little over 900gs after laying 4 eggs for me 3 days ago. she seems terribly thin but she was 1400gs before she was gravid. whats the lowest your girls have weighed after laying/ what has been the highest number of grams lost after laying for you guys?

My girls that were about the same weight last year both weighed a little over 900 grams after they laid. As long as you feed them well they will gain back all that weight and then some before you start breeding them this fall. I have a girl that weighs 1,800 and she almost loses half of her weight every year.

My pinstripe girl was down around 850 after laying this year, and she's back with a vengeance and now over 1,200 grams. The most I had a girl lose was around 1,100 grams on a 9 egg clutch.

Yeah, my 2007 het lavender girl went from 1300 something to 900 something laying 5 eggs last year. She looked like a deflated tire. But at least she started eating right away.

They all look bad right after they lay.
Trick is to get them eating again ASAP.

Don't give up on rats so soon. Most of my girls wont eat after laying for about a week to a week and a half. Did you make sure to clean the tub she laid in really well and clean her off also? You have to remove the egg "smell" so they go back to normal...
