I see a head!
Well my surprise clutch is starting to hatch! ...if you haven't seen my other post, I rescued a beat up and scared bp and woke up one morning to eggs!...
This is my very first time with all of this and I know it's just a head poking out but I want to thank you all of you for the help and guidance. With out you I wouldn't have gotten this far.
I have 2 more quick questions. 1. After they shed and I have to feed them can I feed f/t or do I need to get some live pinks? 2. One of my eggs isn't dimpling in at all, I did the flashlight trick and I can see the veins and stuff so could it just be a late bloomer?
And now here's the pic of the first head poking out!

Thank you for your time! This is so exciting for me!

Congratulations! For question 1 - yes you can attempt to feed the second time f/t, but don't be surprised if the babies don't eat. Sometimes it takes two or three feedings before they switch over. 2) If you have veins in that egg, it should be OK. Sometimes they don't dimple until right at the end and some eggs take longer than others to pip.
congratulations again! That first clutch is always exciting!

Thank you so much. How long on average does it usually take until they shed? The local expo I can get live from isn't until the 19. If that's too long there is a place about 45 min away that sells some live.
How often after the first shed do you feed? I've heard varied answers from 2 days after to 5 days after. And then what is the feeding schedule? Every 3 days or every 5?
Is pinky or fuzzy mice better? I would think pinks would be too small

First, remain calm. Take a deep breath! You have plenty of time. It takes about a week for them to shed then you can attempt feeding any time after that, but you may have a little better success if you wait a few days after the shed. I've had babies go up to a month after the shed before eating their first meal. I usually feed every 3 to 5 days. When they are really small, 3 days then slowly go up to 5 days. My babies stay in the incubator until that first shed. Then they go into the shoe box rack for babies.
Fuzzy mice have a lot of movement and are great first time feeders. I usually try rat pinkies and if that doesn't work, go with mouse fuzzies.

How exciting! Usually a fuzzy mouse is good for super small bps. But mine bp was 62 grams and could eat a small mouse without a problem. So I moved her to a medium mouse. All depends on how big they are. But feeding under is never a bad idea because it is only easier for them to kill and swallow.

Thank you! I will start with fuzzies. So you guys suggest I do the first two feedings live then try f/t?

Re: I see a head!
I would do a few live feedings and after they show a good feeding response. then try a freshly killed. If they don't take it, you can then freeze it, use it after they take a freshly killed one. should have some large tongs, so you can have some movement with the dead rodent without risking a snake bite to yourself.

First meal I have always offered f/t but have live mouse hoppers on hand. I offer f/t first, if a no go then theyre offered live. I've never done a transition from live to pre killed to f/t. They typically will either take f/t or live for the first meal. I would also offer prey twice per week for hatchies

Awesome, thank you all again so much! I will keep this thread alive and keep updating with pics as the rest hatch.
