ball python in same aquarium as boa

Hi..
I have a ball python and he got along fine with another ball python in the same aquarium..
I think I want a larger snake, is it ok to house a 8 foot boa with my ball python in the same aquarium? I think the red-tailed boa looks nice..

No, it is ill-advised to house the two snakes together, and especially a bad idea to put a ball python in with any kind of boa. Boas are all too often carriers of IBD, which may not affect them at all but will kill any ball python (and as far as I'm aware, any python). There is no cure for IBD and no telltale signs of which boas are carriers.

I agree with Marla 100%.. it is not a good idea to put pythons with boas. IBD is serious.

It's funny this should come up. I was just at a pet store where a red tail and bp have been together for quite awhile. I thought that was kind of wierd, asked about it, and was told that they get along fine. Which they did. But when I asked about sharing diseases and such I got a look like I had sprouted a second head or something. Some people!

Is there another easy to care for snake that grows to maybe 6-9 feet that I could house with my BP?

Why not just get another enclosure? You can go the Rubbermaid/Sterilite route with heat, light, substrate, hides, thermometer/hygrometer and the whole deal for less than $50. Then you can get whatever you like and just be careful to wash thoroughly between handling/feeding/cleaning the two snakes? Ball pythons aren't really social creatures, and even if you did get a second ball python to house with it, it should be housed separately for quarantine for an absolute minimum of 30 days anyway.

i dont even liek the idea of putting two of the same species together. much less two entirly different species of different size coming from entirly different habitats on opposite sides of the world.
if you cant afford a second enclosure...you cant afford a boa. a boa that gets to be ten feet will be eating several large rats per feeding (every 7-14 days) thats about 2 bucks a rat. lets say you feed your boa 5 rats per feeding. thats atr least 20 bucks a month, 240 a year. not to mention shipping costs if you order f/t. youve also got your BP to look after.
keeping you BP with your boa can be dangrous. one may harm the other, pass parasites or diseases to one another, or stress eachother out. also, one species may have bacteria that are helpful to it but could harm another species.
to house a boa you need a minimum 6'x2' enclosure. is that the size of you BP enclosure?
this is all just stuff to think about.

Very bad idea to house any two species together. Ecspecially animals such as boids
