Zoo Med Repti Therm U.T.H.

Does anyone use Zoo Med Repti Therm U.T.H. with tubs? Its says for glass tanks only but with only 10 watts I don't see a problem for tubs. Thanks, Neil

When they work they work fine, when they fail they don't, best advise I can give you is buy better if you can afford to.

I use almost all herpstats by spyder robotics, and a few johnson controls a419's.

The ones I've been using for my tubs are the fluker ones. Haven't had a problem with them not working, they are cheaper, and they don't get as hot as the zoo med uth's. Says they hold at 100 degrees on the package which isn't too hot for plastic but they are on thermostats anyway so itchy won't get that hot anyway =P

I have a Fluckers and two ZooMed's. They all work well. They all need a tstat. The ZooMed will usually start messing up when they are pilled of and the internal parts get pulled on. A trick for using a uth with a sticky side is to place foil on the sticky part and then tape it to the tub. That way you can remove it without damaging it whenever you want.

The Flucker one is very thin and though it says it won't get over 100 it can cause temps over a hundred. I did a test with it on a tub for my blood python. I put it under the tub with no tstat(no snake either) and had an extra thick 4-5 inch substrate. When I checked it later the tub floor under the substrate insulated so much heat that it was over 110.

I use them, I have them on thermostats but they dont' pose a problem at all

Is that the one with the knob to control the temp?

If so then you need to get a digital one, if you need decent price for now you can get a hydrofarm thermostat

I've been using ZooMed UTH pads almost exclusively and they work just fine as long as you have a good T-stat. :) Last month was the first time I'd had to replace one, and it had been running for at least 4 years.

As for attaching, leave the paper on then use foil tape (other tapes will dry up and fall off over time) to tape the pad paper side to the tub or tank. Works great and preserves the pad longer. :) Here's a picture of one on a tub:

And make sure you have at least a Johnson or Ranco stat if not a Herpstat. The cheaper ZooMed ones are only good as QT or backup stats. :)
