When to move up to small rats?
Hey all, I have a late 2011 male pastel that I want to get to breeding size this season. He is sitting at 300 grams and I am currently feeding him two rat pups and he has been taking them no problem. Is it time to move him up? At what weight do u guys move up?
    Thanks, Justin

When small rats equal 10-15% of your snakes body weight. At 300g your snake should have no issues with weaned to small rats.

it depends on the size of the rat. i get my rats from rodent pro and their smalls are 45-85 grams so i weight till my balls are around 450 grams before they get offered a small. i have a few that are around 500 grams but will not take a small they would rather have a large weaned rat instead of a small one. it depends on the snake and their feeding habits. if you plan on breeding your male this year i dont see how he could not reach breeding size.
